ARTISTS' STATEMENT

For the last 3 years, we have mainly been working on photographic portraits that represent women figures in states of introspection. We usually work in the studio, where we try to create a situation of intimacy and withdraw from the world that allows both our models and us to experiment freely with subtle facial expressions, gazes and unusual body postures. Moreover, we try to create images that rely on the model’s body only, model who is, most of the time, naked or almost, and isolated against a neutral grey or black background. In the process of intuitively working with the models, we often find ourselfes doing images that are bond to the old master’s paintings.

Our series “monads, 2008”, refers to a philosophical concept which has been developed by the philosopher Leibniz. The same word, In biology, means an entity with one cell only. The seven figures in this serie are caught in a narcissistic loop.

Our last series “titaniden, 2010” is inspired by Greek mythology. We have worked on embodying new women figures, who take almost Trojan proportions. Something seems to have taken possession of them. The mingling of the naked bodies with this formless “substances” might have caused a metamorphosis of these figures into their supernatural conditions.

The series “detras de la luna, 2009” is an experiment with animal portraits, where the obvious difficulty in staging situations gives way to the a more coincidential working practice. This serie, for us, reflects the idea of conflict and dynamics of proximity.
